THE UNSEEN - An adult horror novel about a group of friends who reunite over the Christmas holiday at a villa in the ski resort Mount Diamond, which is haunted by an evil spirit feeding on the souls of its guests through their fears. Features a Black cast and LGBT themes (you’ll quickly notice a reoccurring theme here). A blend of 80s horror and psychological elements with a teaspoon of fantasy, I would describe The Unseen as Evil Dead meets Silent Hill. The moral of the story isn’t overcoming your fear, it’s acknowledging it. Knowing is half the battle, after all.
Mount Diamond Resort is Oregon’s prime winter getaway. But within its snowy woodland lies an interdimensional parasite feeding on its customers.
When a ghost warns Juanita, a woman haunted by insecurities she’s always ignored, of imminent danger she immediately tries to convince her friends their cabin is haunted but they refuse to believe her. Deciding to avoid the problem, she sets out to leave alone but quickly discovers the resort won’t let her go.
A disturbing find sends her on a mission to prove there is more to Mount Diamond Resort than meets the eye. Deep in the underbelly of Diamond town, she learns the resort is merely a guise of an ancient evil imprisoned ‘outside.’ Its freedom would have deadly consequences for all life as she knows it. And now that she knows the truth, Juanita finds herself at the top of its kill list. The entity weaponizes the fears and anxieties she thought long suppressed to prey on her soul, the fuel it needs to break free. She must finally face the traumas she has avoided all her life or she and everyone she knows will die… endlessly.
TABOO - An adult horror-romance and urban fantasy about a professional demon hunter who ends up falling for a demon. It’s Black and gay. This was one was (pretty, um, a lot) influenced by the Anita Blake Vampire Hunter series.
As the grandson of the founder of the largest demon hunting agency in the world, William Onifede has big shoes to fill but he’s determined to fill them. Respected by his colleagues and praised by his superiors, Will has shown himself to be a master sorcerer not seen since his father. If he could only master his romantic life, he’d be on top of the world. If he isn’t coming on too strong, he isn’t coming on strong enough. And he can add his date with the man of his literal dreams to his ever-growing list of failed dates. None of Will’s apologetic texts are opened, much less answered. He sure did blow it. Dating is a game he just can’t win.
The next morning, he’d see on the news exactly why his date couldn’t answer the phone. His hunt for clues takes him to Taboo, a place no human has any business going to, sorcerer or not. There he sees the sexiest man Baltimore has ever known. Even though the man is staring at him, Will can’t get distracted with his glistening black skin, gorgeous smile or the bling around his neck. What’s a human doing in a demon bar, anyway? If that man ain’t a junkie, he’s a demon. Either one spells Trouble with a capital T.
And now, the man is asking to buy him a drink, introducing himself as Lionel. Great. But maybe Lionel has information Will needs. When a light hearted conversation becomes deadly, Will finds himself in Lionel’s care, a man who can shoot blades out of his own body. What “man” can do that? Lionel might’ve saved Will’s life, but he’s still a man. And no man does anything nice unless he wants something. It’s a game they play. He’ll play along, for now. He needs answers and Lionel’s his way to them. But he has to keep their tightly meetings on the DL. If word got out that he was spending the night with, kissing, and making love to a demon, he’s looking at the end of his career. If he’s lucky. Unlucky, and he’s looking at life imprisonment at Pulaski Prison, branded a rogue witch and stripped of his powers forever.
