HAPPY AUGUST
I told myself I would write a new blog post the first of every month. I…don't think that's going to happen. They'll come when they come, but they WILL come.
I’m still in the thick of querying. More often than I like to admit to myself, I have serious doubt if I have what it takes to be a published author. Sometimes I feel like I'm kidding myself. I know I shouldn't feel this way, but I am only human, after all. After so many weeks (months) of querying agents and hearing nothing back, you can't help but think that maaaybe you aren't as good as you think you are.
I mentioned this in my last post, but in high school and college, I used to make RPGs with RPG Maker as an outlet to tell stories. Being that i’m 32, this was, um, quite a while ago, so I don't get many emails about them these days. But today I got an email that really touched me. I won't post it all, but this part made me smile:
“All I wanted to say is that I really appreciate and enjoy what you did in those games. That's a real gift you got there, man. And I really hope that after all those years you did not become yet another wage slave, because you should be writing for a living. I truly believe so.
And if it's not what you're doing for a living, then I hope this mail will help you get back on the right track :)
Because sometimes all it takes is just a little nudge from a total stranger.
Don't you ever give up the dream. I'm sure you can do great things as a novelist, screenplay writer...”
I really needed to hear/read that. A sign from the Higher Power? I hope so. I really hope I can read this post a year from now and have a good laugh.
